My 7 Blogging Sins

7 blogging sins
There are a few things that I do not do for my blog which I probably really should (or what I do which I probably better of not doing) so let’s go through the 7 blogging sins I’m shamelessly guilty of.

I don’t own white/marble backgrounds

For some reason I don’t have any crisp white surface in my house that I can use as background for my photos. I even thought about using white A4 paper for individual product photos but I’ve never gotten around to trying it. If you did see me with white background in my photos in the future, that’s Tesco brand white A4 paper 70gsm.

I don’t join any giveaways

I’m just going to be blunt and tell you why I don’t join any β€” I hate having to do entry posts just to enter giveaways. I know that in my first giveaway I had the participants done the same thing and I absolutely hated it so in my second giveaway, I used Rafflecopter form that was very easy to join β€” no entry posts needed. I know I probably won’t win anyway so I’ve never been bothered to join.

I hate Google followers gadget

I want people to follow my blog but I just don’t like having the gadget on my blog. I did move the gadget into a Page which I linked in the dropdown on the navigation bar and I can’t stand having that, too so I removed it. You can either follow my blog manually or follow me via Bloglovin’ which is what I prefer more.

I have no CBOX

Just like followers gadget, I don’t like having chat box on my blog. I know that it’s easier for visitors to leave a message but then that’s just.. that. A message. I know it because I do it too β€” I visit people’s blogs and I leave a message saying “blogwalking” with a smiley and if there’s any indication that the blog I’m visiting always do follow back, I follow their blogs and leave a longer message like “blogwalking and followed x” just to get them to follow me back. And then I’m left with a crowded dashboard full of posts that I don’t personally read. I do appreciate visitors leaving messages and I will continue leaving messages on blogs I visit for the first time but I’m just not going to have that on my blog anymore.

I don’t care about DA/Alexa rank/SEO/Google Analytics

In my opinion and research I did, these are only important if you monetise your blog and you need all the help to get more page views and higher ranks. I don’t know what domain authority does, Alexa rank is only important for brands to consider you for sponsorship and advertisements, SEO is to get your blog on the first page of google search, and google analytics is just too hard for me to understand and I ain’t got no time for that..

I suck at taking flatlays

One of the struggles I have with blogging is definitely taking pictures for my posts. I’m not artistic, I don’t even have an ounce of art skills in me so I find photography really hard for me to learn especially flatlays. I don’t have the appropriate props (or I just couldn’t be bothered to scavenge around my house) and I don’t have the patience.

I judge a blog by their design

The first thing I notice about a blog when I visit them is their blog design. The use of colours and fonts are really important to me in deciding whether I like a blog or not. Now, you definitely do not need to buy a premade template for this because I know Eeca ShyaaΒ made her own template and her design is beautiful! I hardcore judge a blog by their design and I don’t like that I do that to every single blog I visit but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this, right?

Well that concludes the 7 blogging sins that I do. So what’s your ‘sin’?

  • I suck at taking flatlays too! It is hard to arrange all the items beautifully just like what we always see on every flatlay pictures. Give up! haha

  • omg it takes forever for me to list them down erinnn haha but the stuffs you have written up there are basically my blogging sins as well. i mean, who doesn't love white/ marble background?? that shit is aesthetic af. judge a blog by its design? uhm, i do that too haha. i couldn't agree more with that alexa ranking thing, it bugs me so much. btw, thanks for giving an idea for my next blog post erin! you truly are my fairy godmother in blogging world ahaa!

  • ikr! and you need some cute props for flatlays too

  • rasa macam messy kalau letak followers gadget tu haha

  • i feel you about alexa ranking! bukan accurate sgt pun benda tu haha. aaaaaaaaaaand you're welcome! <3

  • definitely flatlay.

I hate it when the blog does not have history and label function. Am I suppose to click next button every time I need to read the entries. It's so inconvenient

  • I dont like the Google follow gadget either. I too suck at flat lays, SO MUCH that I don't even think of them anymore and oh white bright backdrops… what can i say !?

  • I hate google followers gadget thooooooo !

  • my pet peeves too!

  • i know! so ugly πŸ™

  • i'm still trying to polish my flatlay skill though. it's so hard!

  • my BIGGEST sin is for using Disqus (not the Blogger comment). HAHAHA I would love to move back, but if I do that, I will lose all the comments that I have in Disqus (which they are too precious for me to lose). Disqus used to sync with Blogger, but no longer right now. That's why visitors always see 0 comments on the blog post.

So, I just hope that if someone really want to leave a comment in my blog, they will find time to sign up for Disqus or just simply leave an email (I am glad some people send emails tho to comment) Lol

I feel sorry for them, but I am doing fine with Disqus.

  • I planned on using Disqus on my blog too but after your comment, I think I'm not going to lol. Disqus is not widely used in Malaysia so I probably won't be getting as much comments as I do now if I installed Disqus on my blog. But Disqus is easier, though. I like how easy it is to put hyperlinks on comments.

  • i love eecha shyaa blog too . =)

  • I personally recommend you NOT to use for this time. HAHA. They didn't even give any range of time to solve the problem. And yes, so many people PMed me personally why is it hard to leave a comment. Huhu, actually, once you have the account to log in, it will be okay. But, how can I simply ask people to sign up for something they don't know. T__T

  • busyra paling malas untuk join GA. tapi terkadang tu terjoin jugak. hehe. but certain GA saja.

  • true! like i said, mostly yang comment on my blog is malaysians and dorang tak tahu sgt what is disqus. i like disqus. i just don't think it'll do my blog good, y'know.

  • haha kan! ada tu giveaway makeup mcm nak join jugak la tapi rules pulak tah apa apa. terus cam hmmm takpelah belum tentu dpt menang haha pessimist betul

  • blog dia cantik kan!

  • i want to have my own domain but I am not willing to spend the money *gosh*

  • it is worth it! only rm45 per year so tak rasa sgt lah πŸ™‚

  • I am guilty of them all! Loved this post, legit use clothes as my "white backdrop" or even paper. I wish I had my shit together but I honestly don't know what I am doing. I'm going to find you on Bloglovin' because it's nice to find people who aren't the same as everyone else. Look forward to reading your future posts xxx

  • i feel ya girl! i wish i had my shit together like most bloggers with their white background and rose gold props. and thank you btw! <3

  • aah cantik dan kemas . =)

  • Me too. I am not that kind of person who is artistic in taking photos.

  • ikr. i really wanna work on my skills

  • Agree with the last point.

Blog design, colors and fonts are essential on deciding samada I want to stay and explore the blog or not. If the blog design menyakitkan mata (semak), then I'll close it right away. Lol.

  • ikr!

  • flatlays!!! Inilah paling susah sekali. Konon nak ada gambar sendiri for each posts, tapi still hampeh. last, guna free stock photos je. Hehehe.

Siqah ada jugak join GA cuma tak selalu. kadang-kadang rasa bersalah kalau orang tag, tapi kita tak buat. Hee. tengok hadiah jugak, if top up, tak payahlah join. pakai postpaid pun.

And yes, blog design is most important. Siqah biasa akan stay on blog yang clean and responsive since siqah most view blog guna mobile πŸ™‚

Eeca shyaa blog design cantik! Pandai dahlah designs sendiri πŸ™‚

  • tau takpe siqah! erin guna gmbr sendiri untuk makeup posts je, yang lain semua stock photos. senang.

haha tu la kalau hadiah topup lagi la erin taknak join langsung sbb kita pakai postpaid and drpd beli topup tu baik beli something yang lagi best tapi sama harga. tu lagi bermakna ada sentimental value kan.

betul tu erin suka responsive template! dah berakhir dah zaman denim template tu semua, bila bukak dkt phone/tablet, nampak kecik cenonet je, kena pulak zoom tu haih.

  • you know, i just learned now what flatlay it. so that what it is called.

i gave up those cbox and giveaway item long ago because i simply don't want things that i don't like.well, now it felt like i need to unfollow all those weird blog in my dashboard. it felt so liberating btw. but the follower though. i've been seacvhing hing and low for that and wth is bloglovin? (but i've followed you so there is that). i like how pure your sins are, myb because i can totally relate to it. that white walls? my dad made the contractor paint ALL WALLS white this yeloowish greenish colour which is quite nice but damn, HE PAINT EVERYTHING.

  • I never look at Google Analytics. I hardly understand it and it depresses me too much! I’ve never heard of Alexa rank so, may need to google that one. I also suck at taking flatlays as I don’t own a decent camera. I just use my iPhone or iPad for now. xx

    sheergloss

    • I have never understood why some people are obsessed with their Google Analytics. For me, knowing that I still have traffic coming in everyday is already enough but to each their own, though. I have a Canon EOS but I still suck at photography aha x
