This tag was started by Jaclyn Hill on YouTube where she talked about her ultimate favourite product for each makeup category so I thought I would do it on my blog to just kind of talk about my favourite products aka my ride or die products.
I gotta warn you that some of the products I have talked about a lot in the past but I hope you still enjoy it nonetheless. I tag everyone who wants to do this and I’m looking forward to reading your take on this makeup tag.
I don’t have a favourite for primer because I just got into the whole shebang of using primer about a year ago and the only primer I have is the Essence Moisturizing Primer so I don’t have anything else to compare it with.
I have a tough time choosing for this one because I love every base makeup I own but I gotta go with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation Gel because it is awesome. It doesn’t provide you with full coverage look however it is buildable with natural light to medium coverage which is what i prefer for my foundation. I love it just a bit more than the Laneige BB Cushion. And yes, if I ran out of it, I will definitely repurchase.
I rarely ever incorporate concealer in my makeup routine just because I don’t find the need to. I rarely conceal my under eye because I don’t have eyebags (thank god!) and although I have hyperpigmentation on my cheeks from acne, I can get away with just foundation or bb cream.
I don’t try too much to hide my hyperpigmentation but if I do want to, I really like NYX Concealer Jar but you gotta take time to apply it as it can look cakey if put too much. Putting the concealer at the back of your hand to warm it up and applying it with a concealer brush helps so much.
Hands down, it’s gotta be the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder. I love how it doesn’t change the colour of my foundation although it is a translucent powder and to top it all off it is cheap! It keeps my face from shining all day but if you have oily skin, you might have to blot your T zone after a few hours but there’s nothing that can’t be managed.
Another one of my favourite is Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder. I used it back in high school and it was a lovely powder that I used to blot my face. It doesn’t look cakey on the skin and I would have definitely repurchased if it wasn’t so expensive for my broke self.
If there is one makeup product that I don’t need to buy so many of because I already had the best, it’s the Estée Lauder Pure Color Blush in Pink Kiss. It lasts all day, it doesn’t streak, and it suits any skin complexion. It is such a lovely blush and I won’t ever have to buy other blushes because this one is just perfect for me.
Unfortunately, I am not a fan of bronzer and the only bronzer I have is E.L.F. Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder in St. Lucia. That’s enough for me because I barely use it. Although I do think I need to start using a bronzer because in pictures, I look like ghost. My face is stark white and it’s nice to bronze it up a little bit just to give it some warmth and colour.
It has to be TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer. I’ve always known that this was a beautiful highlighter from the countless of reviews I read and watched but after owning it and using it myself, I wouldn’t be needing another because if you have this product in your makeup collection you’re good to go. Although it is an intense highlight, you can always use a light hand while applying it for that natural glow.
I don’t think I’ll ever spend money on high-end brand mascaras because drugstore has some good ones if not at par with the more expensive brands. My favourite is Maybelline Volum Express Hypercurl Waterproof Mascara.
I didn’t really like it the first time I tried it because I thought it did nothing compared to my other mascaras but I gave it a try a few times and I love it! My mascara last all day long and it didn’t smudge at all. I pick this mascara if I’m going out all day and needed my mascara to stay intact.
My favourite lipstick is none other than MAC Lipstick. You see, I’m not a fan of lip products but I had my fair share of trying quite a lot of brands and I might be biased but MAC lipsticks are cult favourite in the beauty world and they are absolutely great. MAC has wide range of shades to choose from and you will definitely find some that you like.
One more brand worth mentioning is NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. If you’re like me and you don’t like liquid lipsticks because they are too drying, then you ought to give this a try. They are inexpensive with wide range of colours to choose from and they smell like vanilla cupcakes.
When I was little I used to buy tubes after tubes of lip gloss because I was too young for lipsticks and shiny lips was the way to go. My favourite lipgloss of all time is the Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss. It’s very pigmented and not sticky which I really like because I won’t have hair stuck on my lips. It doesn’t go on streaky or patchy and I absolutely love it to bits.
I haven’t tried many eyeshadow palette so I don’t know much about what’s good and what’s not but if you want an inexpensive but pigmented eyeshadow palette, I really recommend Sleek i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette that you can get from Sephora online or hermo.my for less than RM70.
I bought it a few years back from Luxola (now Sephora MY) for RM40+ only while it was on sale and I’m so glad I did. I got the one in Storm and I’m still loving it.
I didn’t have much problem with my brows because I have thick and dark brows so I can get away with just a brow pencil. My favourite is Shu Uemura Hard Formula Eyebrow Pencil that gives me a natural brow look instead of the carved, I-know-your-brow-isn’t-made-of-hair type of brows. This pencil can last you years and is definitely a good investment.
After that, I always set it in place with Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper & Hair Touch Up, another one of my favourites that I have repurchased before. I can get away with just the brow shaper for running errands where I don’t want to do my brows but still want them to look nice.
Maybelline makes the best eyeliner products in my opinion. My favourite is Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner which does not smudge at all even if you have oily lids like me.
If gel liners intimidate you and you prefer something easier, then Maybelline Hypersharp Liner is a good one. I think they repackaged it because the one I really liked was in yellow cap but maybe the new formula is good too if not better than the one in yellow cap.
Another cult favourite in the beauty community, the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray. I got the travel size one from the cashier counter in Sephora for RM50 and my mom was paying so I didn’t care about spending that much on something made out of water but I like it a lot.
It made my makeup last all day and it controlled the oil on my face. I still get oil on my face because I had oily skin but it was nothing that I can’t solve with blotting paper.
